After a flood inundated Fort McMurray in 2013, the Heritage Society turned to Kei Space for help. Their goal was revitalization of Heritage Village, where flooding had damaged many of the buildings, exhibits, and artifacts. Our scope of work soon extended to Heritage Shipyard.

Revitalizing both sites was an immense task requiring changes to nearly every public element of the organization. Kei Space worked with the Society to develop a comprehensive Master Plan as well as a new brand and image that communicates a contemporary organization with historical roots, a strong identity, and a sense of place. Two and a half years later, after a massive fire delayed project plans, we successfully transformed the site into a completely new experience.

Kei Space worked on all aspects of redesign, from reorganizing Heritage Village for improved visitor flow to creating unique exhibits in 17 historic buildings. At the Shipyard, we populated two historic rail cars with interior exhibits, reworked interpretive signage and created new experiences for the 1,500-square foot visitor center. Best of all, despite floods, fires, and delays, Kei Space finished our work on budget.
