Canmore Museum & Geoscience Centre
The Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre opened their new and exciting permanent exhibit in March 2016. From Coal to Community is an exploration of Canmore’s history going all the way back to the formation of the earth and the creation of the Rocky Mountains.
Kei Space’s thorough planning process enabled the Museum to tell a very big story in a very small space (1700 square feet) with a very limited budget. Supported by artifacts from the Museum’s collection, the exhibition begins in geologic time and walks the visitor forward to present day through the human history of the community.
Kei Space began this project performing all the necessary research, creating the Big Idea that would ultimately evolve into themes and messages for the exhibits, designed the interpretive and experiential spaces from top to bottom, created all fabrication documentation and managed the entire implementation process for the client. Throughout the process, we worked very closely with the museum staff, board of directors, experts and city officials to ensure all information was accurate and verified.
